From the Vineyard,
With Love
Our story found one of its most meaningful moments in Mossel Bay, at the Jackelsvlei Wine Farm — surrounded by vineyards, fresh air, and a quiet kind of beauty that felt almost made for the occasion.
It was a day that had been in the making for a long time. There had been planning, thinking, and rethinking — and yet, when it finally arrived, it didn’t feel rehearsed at all. It felt natural. Almost as if the moment had been waiting for us, rather than the other way around.
Beneath that calm, though, there was a steady undercurrent of nerves. One of us carried a secret — and a small but very important ring — tucked safely (and repeatedly checked) in a pocket. Every moment felt heightened, every movement carefully considered, as anticipation lingered in the background of an otherwise ordinary day.
Wanting to capture the moment, a plan was set in motion. Abigail’s mom was invited along to take photos, with the true reason only shared along the way. As we walked through the vineyard, surrounded by rows of vines and the quiet beauty of Jackelsvlei, everything seemed to settle into place.
And then — the question.
In an instant, time seemed to pause, and yet the world joined in. A nearby table of guests noticed what was happening and broke into cheers, turning the moment into something even more unforgettable. As if by perfect timing, a woman approached and shared that she was a photographer, capturing the moments just after the proposal — the joy, the surprise, the beginning of a new chapter.
What followed was a spontaneous kind of celebration — the kind that isn’t planned or structured, but simply happens in the moment. It carried the excitement of what had just taken place, lingering in laughter, quiet smiles, and the feeling that something truly special had just begun.
It wasn’t perfect in a polished, storybook kind of way. It was better than that — real, a little nerve-filled, a little unexpected, and completely ours.
"And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love."
